I cut out the core, leaving some on the bottom, fill with raisins, sprinkle with cinnamon and then fill up the core with maple syrup. In two weeks (late in the season but the only time we could connect) my sister and I will meet in Jordan and go apple picking (she lives near Mankato). We did it last year and the girls had a blast.

Apple pies are my husband's all time favorite.

In answer to your question, my Dad is a preacher's kid - being Dutch and Reformed means the ties lie in the Michigan and Iowa.

When he was in HS my grandfather took a call to a church in Kansas where my Dad met my Mom and where I grew up.

My Dad never completed college so after the oldest us three children were out of the house and the politics of his city job forced him out, he went back to school down in Dodge City, Kansas.

He and Mom decided that after my youngest sister was out of the house they would move to Iowa. My brother, my grandfather, and one of my father's brothers already lived in Pella. Anxious to have my Dad nearer my uncle and my grandfather pulled some strings at Vermeer manufacturing (they design and manufacture heavy equipment).

So about fifteen years ago, my parent's moved to Pella. Since then one of my Dad's other siblings has moved there too (my Dad comes from a family of seven).

Because on can't help wondering about such things - I often think that if something were to happen to Tim, I would move to Pella - I love it there.

Are you sorry you asked the question? :)

I like Iowa because if you lived there you could grow more it is Zone 5 by my parent's. :)

Gardeners are a weird lot. :)Melissahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03418200517338216765noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1300298790008212868.post-85245489294291463712007-09-29T21:21:00.000-05:002007-09-29T21:21:00.000-05:00Oh goodness, Kris! I'm planting apple trees and sour cherries up at our Montana place next year.

This time of year always reminds me of when my sister used to have three apple trees, and we'd spend a whole day picking and then preserve the juice. Yum.
