Gale Woods Farm

While the dogs were at the groomers today, I decided to go to Gale Woods Farm for a walk. Gale Woods is part of our county park system. It's a working farm. They have animals - sheep, cattle, pigs, chickens, turkeys, a dog and many cats. They have gardens and farm land. They sell eggs, honey, meat, syrup, and wool. There's a lake for canoeing and fishing, and 3.5 miles of hiking trails. It's beautiful in every season. We went one day when my parents were here this summer - the gardens were beautiful. There are tons of hardwood trees so autumn is a treat. You can ski and snowshoe in the winter. Today was peaceful. Here's what I saw:

Guess I should say that the marshy pond shown in these photos is not the canoeing/fishing lake. My camera batteries died before I got that far!!

Looks like a great place, happy animals! :O) What syrup do they sell?

Hey Gina - it's maple syrup. Many of the hardwood trees are maples. They tap them in the spring and then make syrup. Yummmmmm!

What a neat place! I'm such a city girl that I was excited when I saw horses and cows near our home. And there are even tiny goats up the road a bit.

What nice pictures. You are lucky to be able to visit a working farm. I can't think of any parks I have been in that would also be a farm.

Oh, thank you for the field trip! I especially love the sheep with the brown around both eyes.

Neat pictures----the one with the gravel road winding thru the trees to the observation deck reminded me of the Gal with the two little kids walking way out there----I believe she said she went over there two or three times a week----I thought those little kids would be SOOOOOOOOO tired.

Loved your 'dish blog'---I especially like the large bowl, and the collander I hadn't seen before, really different....don't see many ceramic ones. Good Job!!

What a good walk that must have been... the sheep are so cool. It is far greener there than here.

Have a good weekend!

One of the west-metro gems that I have yet to visit. Gotta get out there one of these days.

How gorgeous! We have a farm down here a ways from us where you can go and take your kids, and they can milk cows and all kinds of stuff. We're going to go down there in the summer next year.

I love stopping by and relaxing with you!

Be on the lookout for your oil warmer, it went in the mail on Friday.

Oooh are they open year-around? My girls love visiting farms. I haven't been to the one that C went to for her field trip although the brochure that her teacher sent home indicates it is open through Christmas (I think it was in Brooklyn Park).

We love Kelley Farms and there is a neat little farm that sells pumpkins behind the Andover HS (which means it is only a couple of miles from our house max) - they will give tours but only by reservation. The only time they are open to the general public is during pumpkin season.
