Veteran's Day

In honor of Veteran's Day, I thought I would show you a photo of my grandpa, Sam Mills. He was born in 1892 and died in 1993, just a few months shy of his 101st birthday. He fought in World War I, stationed in France. I was thinking about him today and wishing that I had talked to him about the war when I was growing up. But my dad told me tonight that he rarely shared his experiences with anyone - he would just say that we were better off not knowing. Grandpa and Grandma lived around the corner (or through the orchard, if you took the shortcut) from us when I was growing up. Grandma had beautiful gardens, and Grandpa farmed with my dad. They were wonderful grandparents, and we were very lucky to have them living so close. I think of them often.

Kris,
What a lovely tribute to a man how loved you very much---he certainly was handsome in his uniform wasn't he? Not bad without the uniform either!!!!!!!

Still 80 degrees and a wonderful breeze here, A wonderful evening.

He is a handsome man - he looks like he is shy and perhaps a bit private (but not in a bad way).

You've got longevity in your genes!

Good grandparents are like that. I think of my paternal grandfather often. Often it surprises me what will trigger memories of him.

May I just thank you for your grandfather's service to this country and his willing to fight to protect his family, his nation and freedom? Thank you.

Your grandfather had such a kind-looking face - it's wonderful that he lived to be almost 101. You were fortunate to have your grandparents living nearby ... there are certainly very few Canadian vets from WWI still living.

Just reading your post..
Your family are blessed to have grandparents living with you for such a long time..and my thoughts turn to the my family..
A family who lost so much during WWI and WWII. I always hoped and wished that we will never have a war again, I always hoped that people could live in peace together, always hoped people would learn from the past, but my wish didn't come true..
