a good day for loons

This afternoon we heard two loons being very noisy out in front of our house. Mark grabbed the camera, a humongous lens, and a tripod - and captured these images of one of them.

We hear loons almost daily, but they're usually on the next bay over. It was very fun to have them here - even though they stayed quite far from shore.
I'm guessing that's seaweed in his/her mouth.

Loons are very high on my Most Favored Animals list! And I'm so jealous that you get to hear them all the time. My favorite memory of them is backpacking into a lake in Glacier NP and falling asleep to their calls. I even have a loon clock in my kitchen that makes the call on every hour.

We get a few loons in the winter here in Alabama, but they are silent then.

Very cool that you have loons. Loons are something I've only ever seen a few times in my life. They have such a great call and are such a handsome bird.
