The purple ones and that fire-red one third from the bottom are just remarkable. My mother-in-law is day lily crazy, but I'm just beginning to appreciate them, and your pics are contributing to that. She gave us a couple that are just blooming for the first time this year, and I'm struck by the rich color.
Any advice on dividing them? Do you do that? If so, after how many years?
Thanks trailhead!! You can definitely divide daylilies. I've read that 3, 5, or 7 years are good times - but if you have enough leaves and roots, you can divide them anytime. Kind of depends on what you want: let the plant grow without dividing and you'll get more blooms per plant - divide them and you'll get more plants in a hurry. Either way works just fine. I think of daylilies the same way that I think of hosta - you really can't do anything wrong! I'm trying to add more vibrant colors to my collection now - if you find someone else who has daylilies, chances are they'll be very happy to do trades with you - a nice cheap way to get more variety. (I want to see photos now that you have a new camera!) :)
I have a few that spring up -- wild, I guess -- I never planted them. Of course, my neighbor has some lovely orange ones. As always, I love your photos.
I love the red one, third from the bottom. It would look stunning backed with a cloud of Russian Sage. Does it have a name that you can put your finger on?
Holy cow -- you always take my breath away with your pictures, Kris. I come to your blog whenever I want to see something really gorgeous and you never disappoint me.
Thank you so much, everyone!! I'd be hard-pressed to choose my favorite garden plant - (I'd probably have to say whatever is blooming at the moment!) - but daylilies are definitely near the top of the list.
This year I'm feeling the need to add some more vibrant colors to the mix - more of the red, for instance. Meresy_g - I love your idea of the red with Russian sage! And sorry, I don't have the name anymore :(
I'm so happy that you all come to visit and leave such lovely comments - I love sharing my gardens with you all!
My passion is gardening - but I also enjoy kayaking, reading, cooking, travel, and playing with the two poodles who live with us. Email me at kkgardens AT gmail DOT com.

I love the purple-ish pick ones.
All your daylilies are beautiful! I can't pick a favorite. All my yellow ones are blooming now.
Your daylilies are so pretty. I love all the different colors you have.
Kris - do you clip back your spent blooms? My Stella d'Oros look a little untidy right now. Anything I can do to help rejuvenate another bloom?
I am glad to see someone else loves day lilies like I do. The clear red one is stunning!
Just beautiful! I just can't get enough of daylilies either Kris! If I had to narrow it down,I like the top pink and the red best think...

I love the first one the color is almost apricot...
What a pretty shade that first one is and that purple with the coneflowers is just the perfect combo!

A lovely collection of lilies!! I must find room for a few more in my garden.
